Russell Billiu Long Exhibit
Russell Long (1918 - 2003) served in the U.S. Senate from 1948 to 1986, having won election to this position at the age of 29. During succeeding terms of office, his efforts on behalf of the citizens of Louisiana left an indelible mark on the progress of the state's economic development. Senator Long also made major contributions to the social and cultural development of the nation during his tenure, as he was instrumental in the passage of a number of pieces of important legislation. Unlike his father Huey P. Long, Russell Long will not be noted as a charismatic, daring, and romantic political renegade. His 38-year career, however, will be remembered as one of the most productive and fascinating in Louisiana history. For more information please call the OSC at 225-342-0500.
