Here is the record layout of the election results file. When the file is unzipped, it should load into a spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel or Lotus 123. Some of the older files end in .csv which is a comma separated format-most of the files end in .dbf which is a dBase file. The file record layout is as follows. Election date in MMDDYY format, 6 Race number, 8 (can be used to extract one race from the file) Race name or Candidate name and ballot number, 30 (these are the first records in the file, the number depends on how many candidates are running) Parish, 2 (1 thru 64-see parish.txt in our Public folder on web site) Ward, 4 Precinct, 6 Votes for 1st candidate, 7 Votes for 2nd candidate, 7 Votes for 3rd candidate, 7 etc. for up to 50 candidates Below is an example file from 4/15/00 41500 21016780 District Judge 0 0 41500 21016780 1st JDC, Election Section 3, 0 0 41500 21016780 Katherine Hennessey Dorroh0010 0 0 41500 21016780 B.
